Now More Than Ever: Empowering Girls to Lead, Speak Up, and Stand Strong
Something is happening in this country.
It’s happening in courtrooms, in classrooms, in locker rooms, in boardrooms. It’s happening quietly in policies and loudly in protests.
Rights and recognitions that took generations to achieve are being dismantled before our eyes.
For girls, transgender youth, LGBTQ+ communities, and BIPOC individuals, the message coming from those in power is clear: your voice matters less. Your place is not guaranteed. Your rights are conditional.
And that? That is exactly why we must fight harder than ever to teach leadership, empowerment, and resilience to every young girl and female-identifying individual. Because if we don’t? The voices being silenced today may not return tomorrow.
The Unspoken Message to Girls in America
When lawmakers strip away reproductive rights, they tell girls that their futures aren’t fully theirs to control.
When schools censor history and ban books, they tell girls that their education must fit inside someone else’s narrative.
When transgender athletes are banned from competition, they tell young people that some identities are less valid than others.
When LGBTQ+ youth are erased from policies and protections, they tell kids that who they are is something to be hidden, not celebrated.
The message is clear: stay quiet, stay small, stay in line.
But we won’t.
Now More Than Ever, We Need to Teach Girls to Lead
We cannot raise a generation that accepts being pushed aside. We must give them the skills, the confidence, and the unwavering belief that their voices, choices, and identities are worth fighting for.
💜 We must teach them how to stand up—not just for themselves, but for others.
💜 We must show them how to challenge injustice, not just endure it.
💜 We must empower them to take up space, to lead, and to know they belong in every room, every sport, every conversation, every decision.
What We Can Do—Right Now
1️⃣ Teach Girls to Think Critically & Speak Boldly
We need independent thinkers—girls who question, who challenge, who don’t just accept things as they are but imagine what they could be. Encouraging debate, curiosity, and critical thinking will give them the tools to navigate and change the world around them.
2️⃣ Make Sure They Know Their Rights
Knowledge is power. Every girl should understand her legal rights, her autonomy, her voice in politics, and how to advocate for herself. Whether it’s learning about Title IX, reproductive rights, voting rights, or protections for LGBTQ+ youth, education is the foundation of empowerment.
3️⃣ Teach Them to Build & Support Strong Communities
No one fights alone. Girls must learn how to uplift one another, to create spaces where everyone—especially those most at risk—feel safe, supported, and valued. Strong leaders build strong communities, and strong communities create unstoppable change.
4️⃣ Show Them How to Own Their Power—Unapologetically
Women and girls are often taught to shrink themselves, to be accommodating, agreeable, and pleasant. Instead, we need to encourage them to take up space, to be direct, to be firm, to be fearless. Leadership starts with believing in your own voice.
Frightening statistics:
In the United States, 1 in 5 women experience completed or attempted rape in their lifetime.
Among LGBTQ+ youth, 39% have seriously considered suicide in the past year, with 12% having attempted it.
The Future is Still Ours to Build
The systems trying to silence young women only have power if we allow them to.
Girls today are watching. They see what is happening. They feel the weight of it. And they are ready to fight for something better.
We owe it to them to equip them with the skills, confidence, and community to do exactly that.
Because the message we send today will define the world they lead tomorrow.
And we say: You belong. You are powerful. And your voice will be heard. 💜
